OV over Gators one of several big Friday wins

SHINGLEHOUSE — Oswayo Valley blew open what had been a relatively close game by outscoring Port Allegany 64-38 over the final three quarters en route to an 85-53 North Tier League victory on Friday night.

Theo Henry scored a game-high 28 points for the Green Wave, while Gavin Babcock (22 points, 10 assists) and Jacob Karr (10 points, 11 rebounds) both notched double-doubles.

“It all started on the defensive end,” OV coach Clark Cummings said. “I can’t tell how good a job Jacob Karr did on Howie Stuckey (11 points).

“The rest of guys too played great defensively. It led to a lot of easy opportunities in transition. We did a nice job on the defensive end of converting it into offense on the other side.”

David Talkington led the Gators with 21 points.

Oswayo Valley (9-6 overall, 5-4 NTL) visits Otto-Eldred on Monday, while Port Allegany (2-13 overall, 1-9 NTL) visits Cowanesque Valley on Monday.

    Austin 53, Smethport 43

SMETHPORT — A dominant defensive performance in the first half was enough for the Panthers to edge Smethport on the road on Friday.

Austin held the Hubbers to just 13 first-half points to help improve its NTL record to 4-6.

Blake Burgett (17 points), Jackson Glover (14 points), and Dempsey Glover (10 points) all finished in double figures for Austin.

Caleb Lutz led Smethport with 13 points.

Austin (9-6 overall, 4-6 NTL) will host Coudersport on Tuesday, while Smethport (9-6 overall, 7-3 NTL) visits Otto-Eldred on Tuesday.

Cameron County 91, Northern Potter 21

EMPORIUM — The Red Raiders dominated NoPo from start to finish on Friday to improve to 10-1 in NTL play.

Adam Shaffer led the way with 27 points and six assists, while Dino Brown (15 points), Marcus Brown (15 points), and Bryce Bauer (eight points, eight rebounds) all had big games as well.

“We shared the ball well and had quite a few assists tonight,” Cameron County coach Mark Guido said.

Holden Cowburn led Northern Potter with five points.

Both teams’ next game will be at Galeton: Northern Potter (0-15 overall, 0-11 NTL) visits the Tigers today, while Cameron County (12-2 overall, 10-1 NTL) makes the trip on Tuesday.

    Coudersport 89, Galeton 49

COUDERSPORT — The Falcons scored a combined 57 points in the second and third quarters alone to remain perfect in NTL play this season (11-0).

Four different players finished in double figures for Coudy, with Hunter Ricke (24), Owen Chambers (19), Derek Keglovits (17), and Jared Green (13) all cracking the 10-point barrier.

Evan Brooks (20 points) and Isaiah Shuemaker (16 points) both finished in double figures for Galeton.

Galeton (3-9 overall, 2-6 NTL) will play again today when the Tigers host Northern Potter. Coudersport (13-1 overall, 11-0 NTL), meanwhile, visits Austin on Tuesday.
