A Bradford man was convicted this week in McKean County Court to felony theft and firearm charges from 2016.
Andrew F. Owens, 22, of Bradford, appeared for trial Tuesday before President Judge John Pavlock.
District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer said the jury found Owens guilty of “all counts that were presented to them. One misdemeanor count of corruption of minors was dismissed prior to the case going to jury.”
Court records indicate he was convicted of possession of a firearm prohibited, a second-degree felony; and two counts each of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, conspiracy to commit theft and conspiracy to receive stolen property, with one count of each graded as a second-degree felony and the other count of each a first-degree misdemeanor.
Shaffer said Assistant District Attorney Ashley Shade prosecuted the case, and attorney Gary Gerson represented Owens.
The criminal complaint filed at the time of Owens’ arrested stated that around 3:50 a.m. June 26, 2016, Owens and Shawn M. Mott took items from a man’s truck while it was parked at 9 E. Washington St. over the weekend.
Items that were alleged at the time to be missing from the truck included a Springfield Armory XD-9 9mm handgun, two loaded magazines, a holster, a magazine carrier, shooting earmuffs, a Craftsman tool bag, a set of truck keys, a bag containing ratchet straps, a wooden axe handle, a Garmin GPS, a blue tarp and sunglasses, court records stated.
Mott pleaded guilty Feb. 2, 2017, to charges of conspiracy to commit theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, both first-degree misdemeanors, and he was sentenced March 2 to 30 days to 18 months in McKean County Jail.
According to court records, Owens was incarcerated on $25,000 bail from July 9, 2016, to Feb. 13, 2017, when he released on $1 bail under Rule 600, Pennsylvania’s rule on the right to a speedy trial. No sentencing date has been set.
