A public utility issue has delayed construction of Sheetz at Lantz Corners in McKean County.
Nick Ruffner, public relations manager of Sheetz Inc., said that he did not have an update on the beginning of construction or a possible opening date of the convenience store planned at U.S. routes 6 and 219.
“We have been looking to place a store location in this area for some time and looking forward to serving the Kane and Mount Jewett communities, in addition to travelers on routes 219 and 6,” Ruffner said.
Once completed, the store will be 5,490 square feet, along with the ability to fuel 10 cars and eight diesel trucks at the same time. The store will also have indoor and outdoor seating, and beer sales are also in the plans.
The convenience store will compete with the Nittany MinitMart, which has been open for several years at the intersection of routes 6 and 219.
Elsewhere in McKean County, Sheetz on the corner of East Main Street and Bolivar Drive in Foster Brook will begin selling beer and malt beverages.
“We just received approval from the (Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board) for beer at that location but will need to go through an inspection,” Ruffner said. “It will be two to three weeks before we start selling beer there.”
That store at the Bradford Mall opened in November of 2016. The 24-hour Sheetz, which is 6,500-square-foot, has a full-service drive-through, inside and outside seating and several fueling stations with regular and premium gasoline and diesel.
Sheetz began selling beer permanently in Altoona in 2007.
The convenience store also has a presence across the region in Emporium, St. Marys, Ridgway, Port Allegany, Coudersport and Warren.
