Lady Owls drop league opener to St. Marys

ST. MARYS — It was a disappointing start to the D-9 League slate for the Bradford Lady Owls on Wednesday, as they fell on the road to St. Marys 48-39.

Bradford’s offense got off to a slow start, as the Lady Owls scored just two points in the first quarter. Struggles at the free throw line played a big part in the defeat, as Bradford went just 12-of-24 from the charity stripe.

“They outplayed us,” BHS coach Bob Hannon said. “They played harder than we did.

“We’re struggling to put the ball in the basket. We’re not shooting well from the line, we’re not taking care of the ball well enough to get over the hump.”

Eric Marshall led Bradford with a game-high 13 points.

Kayle Muccio and Megan Quesenberry both scored 11 points for the Lady Dutch.

Both teams will be in action on Saturday: Bradford (1-8 overall, 0-1 D-9 League) will host Warren, while St. Marys (6-3 overall, 1-1 D-9 League)
