A Kane man is facing drug charges after a traffic stop Tuesday in Kane Borough.
Kenneth T. Goodman, 31, of 329 Chase St., was arraigned before District Judge Richard Luther on two counts of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, both felonies; three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count each of possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance, all misdemeanors; and summary charges of restrictions on alcoholic beverages, failure to carry license and no rear lights.
According to court records, at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, a Kane Borough police officer saw a Mercedes-Benz stopped on Dawson Street in the middle of the intersection with Janeway Street. It was letting out two males the officer recognized for “extensive drug activity.”
The officer allegedly saw a rear brake light was out on the car, then ran the Pennsylvania registration and found a pending registration suspension. He initiated a traffic stop on the car, which was driven by Goodman.
Goodman was allegedly unable to produce a driver’s license, saying it was at home, and the registration and insurance he provided was expired.
While the officer spoke with Goodman through the window, Goodman “appeared to be very nervous and he was slightly shaking and reaching in and out of his pockets,” court records stated. “His demeanor seemed frantic and he was short with his answers.”
When the officer asked if he had anything illegal in the vehicle, Goodman said no; then, the officer said he smelled marijuana. According to court records, Goodman “hesitantly” said no again, and the officer asked him to step out of the vehicle.
The officer asked if Goodman had anything incriminating in the car, and Goodman stated, “Yes, I have pot and a bowl in my center console,” court records stated.
During a pat-down in which the officer was checking for weapons, he allegedly found pills in Goodman’s right pants pocket that were later identified as oxycodone. Goodman did not have a prescription for them, court records stated. The officer also reported finding marijuana, cigarettes, matches, rolling papers and a small “roach” containing marijuana on Goodman.
Goodman consented to have the car searched, and the car was taken by a towing company to the company’s impound lot. Police found a Ziploc bag containing rolling tobacco, a blue sealable container with a plastic bag containing marijuana, Zig Zag wraps, a glass pipe, a sandwich baggie containing marijuana and an open bottle of Crown Royal Regal Apple liquor, court records indicated.
Goodman was incarcerated in McKean County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail, and he is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Jan. 11.
