Shaffer scores 38 for Cam County; Hubbers, Falcons also win

EMPORIUM — Adam Shaffer scored a career-high 38 points to lead the Red Raiders to a big 82-42 victory over the Gators on Thursday in the North Tier League.

Shaffer made 14 field goals in the contest, including three 3-pointers, while going 7-for-11 from the foul line.

“Adam played a great game for us,” Cam County coach Mark Guido said.

Elsewhere, Marcus Brown notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Caden Beldin scored 11 points.

Howie Stuckey (14 points) and Jordan Card (13) finished in double figures for the Gators.

Cameron County (4-1 overall, 2-0 NTL) is off until Jan. 2 when it visits Northern Potter; Port Allegany (1-5, 0-2) will host Oswayo Valley on the same day.

    Smethport 49, Galeton 34

SMETHPORT — The Hubbers earned a come-from-behind win in a foul-filled affair on Thursday night to improve to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in NTL play.

After trailing 20-16 at the half, Smethport was able to outscore the Tigers 33-14 the rest of the way. The Hubbers managed this despite having three players foul out.

Caleb Lutz scored a team-high 11 points, while Brandon Peterson had nine points and five rebounds.

“We started off real cold in the first half,” Smethport coach Jay Acker said. “We came out in the second half and started making some shots. Our defense created some turnovers. We handled the ball a lot better and made a lot better passes.

“It was a really good game; both teams played extremely hard.”

Evan Brooks led Galeton with 16 points, while Joel Griffin added 11.

Smethport will visit Austin on Jan. 2; Galeton (2-3 overall, 1-1 NTL) will host Bucktail on Dec. 30.

    NON-LEAGUE

    Coudersport 71, Kane 39

COUDERSPORT — The Falcons dropped 48 first-half points on Thursday night en route to their second consecutive win in a non-league matchup.

Owen Chambers again led Coudersport in scoring with 18 points. Jared Green had a double-double, recording 12 rebounds to go with his 15 points and six assists.

“Five of our seven threes came in the first quarter,” Falcons head coach Brian Furman said. “We came out hot with our shooting and just rolled from there.”

Coudersport (3-1) hosts Austin next Wednesday.

Kane (1-2) was led by Chad Greville, who had 15 points. The Wolves play next at Elk Catholic.
