It seems that a little bit of Bradford is just what the tourist ordered.
On Monday, Matthew Hileman, manager of the Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit Center, said the Bradford-themed marble ornaments have been a “HUGE success.”
“I’ve had to reorder three times, which means we’ve sold nearly 300 of them,” Hileman told The Era. After The Era featured the ornaments in a front-page story in November, people have been dropping by the center to ask for them specifically.
“They were so popular I decided to create six new designs that we can sell all year round,” Hileman said. “I’m very pleased with these new ones and I know people are going to love them (especially the dog one!).”
The designs include a dog, a “Welcome to Bradford” sign, a skier, an old-fashioned image of a couple enjoying a picnic in the countryside, an image of a fisherman with a not-so-impressive catch and an historic sign of “Entering Bradford” along with the seal of Pennsylvania.
“One thing I’ve learned since that article ran is just how much pride folks around here have for their town,” Hileman said. “They’ve been so happy and excited to see something of quality that they brag about and send as gifts.”
The first set of six ornaments were Christmas-themed.
The ornaments are all American made, printed on marble tile and available only at the Horne museum gift shop.
The Horne Museum is part of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
