Cadyn Sutherland’s lone goal and goalkeeper Evan Schmidt’s defense in front of the net, led Bradford to a 1-0 victory over visiting DuBois in boys soccer action on Tuesday.
Sutherland scored his goal off an assist from Colton Swanson in the 6th minute of the first half.
Schmidt came up with a big save in the second half to preserve the shutout and the victory.
“We switched our lineup tonight,” Bradford coach Wes Lohrman explained. “We moved Cadyn up to an attacking midfield position and Colton back to more of a central midfield position.
“Colton received the ball and was able to play it great on a through ball. Then Cadyn made a run behind their defense and did a great job finishing.”
The Beavers had a chance for a tie in the second half but Schmidt kept them off the scoreboard.
“At the 56-minute mark of the second half, DuBois was given a penalty kick,” Lohrman noted. “Evan came up with the save, the most important of the nine saves he had tonight. It preserved the shutout and the victory.”
Overall, the Owls’ coach was pleased with his team’s performance and the key win.
“As a whole the group worked Monday night on fundamentals and being physical,” said Lohrman. “They put it all into action for 80 minutes today.
”We needed to be at least .500 and this win puts us over .500 at 8-7 so we’ll be submitting our entry form for districts,” he added.
In the junior varsity game, DuBois held on for a 1-0 win, which dropped the younger Owls to 4-7 on the season. Gavin Piscitelli was in goal for Bradford and had four saves.
