Bradford faces test tonight with Kane; Pete is moving on

    Get over it people!

All the talk about Bradford being too big to play in the AML has proven to be just that — talk!

The Owls haven’t pulled off any major upsets and if you read Pete’s (Sirianni) article on Tuesday the numbers he put out there prove Bradford isn’t a powerhouse overflowing with studs.

The Owls are dressing 41 players, according to MaxPreps, while the Ridgway-Johnsonburg co-op has 55, and the Kane-East Forest combine has 50.

True, Bradford is listed as a Quad-A (AAAA) program but that doesn’t mean much. It was just another shakeup of classes cooked up by the PIAA. (It’s similar to starting the season with Week 0 (Zero).

Two years ago, District 9’s plan to bring all the schools together in large school and small school divisions was a monumental flop. Some hope still exists, but unless there is some positive movement in that direction over the winter nothing is going to change.

Nearly all of the KSAC teams and even some of the small AML schools are not in favor of it and you have to bring DuBois and Clearfield back into the fold to give it a chance for success. Remember too, that with all the co-ops taking place, it could be even more difficult to make the numbers work.

My prediction is that Bradford will be looking for approval from the AML schools for an extension of its membership after this season comes to a close.

MOVING ON: In case you haven’t heard, Mr. Sirianni has accepted a position with the New Castle News, a daily paper located just north of Pittsburgh. Pete has been asset to our dwindling staff, but more importantly he possesses a great work ethic, something that seems to be missing among a lot of young people today.

    I wish him well.

ANOTHER LOSS: It seems like sending out my condolences to a family for their loss is becoming way to regular. Last week it was Jane Robertson’s family

Now, earlier this week John Hummel, Jr., passed away. I missed the visitation and funeral service, but my thoughts are with his family.

John loved to talk about football, especially Bradford High. I didn’t know he had played football in college at Susquehanna University for four years. At times I questioned some of his statements, but now I realize he was speaking from experience.

He’s in a better place now and can watch all the games for free!

THE RECORD: Last week was my best this season. I went 10-1, with the lone loss being Bradford falling to Ridgway. For the season I stand at 45-16.

    Now onto the this weekend:

    TONIGHT’S GAMES

    Kane at Bradford

I had a gentleman come up to me Thursday afternoon and ask me who I was going to pick between the Owls and the Wolves. I have been pondering that, and have come to the conclusion that the difference between the two teams will be mentally. Kane has a lot of seniors who aren’t about to let their run be spoiled by Bradford. The Wolves have a 27-game regular season win streak going. By the way, I spoiled that fellow’s day by telling him I was going with Kane. His reply, “You just cost me 20 bucks.” KANE by 16

    Otto-Eldred at Cameron County

Even though this game is in Red Raider land, I have to go with the Terrors. They’ve tasted victory and like it. The Red Raiders are still looking for that first win. OTTO-ELDRED by 12

    Coudersport at Smethport

I see this as being one of the best games of the night. Both teams are unbeaten in the AML North so there‘s a lot at stake. I’d like to go with the Hubbers, but I just think the Falcons will prevail. COUDERSPORT by 6

    Sheffield at Port Allegany

OK Gators this is the matchup you’ve been waiting for. Now all you have to do is make good on it. PORT ALLEGANY by 12

    Ridgway at Curwensville

A lot of big names are going to be on the field in this game. The Elkers have to be sky high after beating Bradford decisively last week. Kane had the answer for the Golden Tide and now it’s the Elkers turn. RIDGWAY by 14

    Keystone at St. Marys

This game is in Dutch Country, but I’m not convinced the Dutch can protect their house. KEYSTONE by 6

    Elk Catholic at Brockway

At home, more often than not, the Rovers bite is worse than their bark, BROCKWAY by 2
