An inmate at the McKean Federal Correctional Institute-McKean in Lafayette Township pleaded guilty to allegations he assaulted a law enforcement official.
Rogelio Muniz-Valdez, 41, entered a guilty plea to a charge of assaulting a federal officer before U.S. District Judge David S. Cercone, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Soo C. Song. She made the announcement on Monday through a news release.
According to Song, on March 15, “Muniz-Valdez assaulted a federal officer who was engaged in his official duties.”
Song did not indicate whether the assault took place at FCI-McKean, or what type of injuries the federal officer suffered.
Song announced in July that Muniz-Valdez was indicted by a federal grand jury on the charge.
Muniz-Valdez will be sentenced at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 8, 2018. Officers of FCI-McKean investigated the incident.
“The law provides for a maximum total sentence of eight years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both,” according to Song. “Under the federal sentencing guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.”
Assistant U.S. Attorney Christian A. Trabold is prosecuting the case.
