RIDGWAY — A truck fire Monday night on Bucktail Road was ruled accidental by a state fire marshal.
A Ridgway-based state police fire marshal, Cpl. Greg Agosti, said a full-size pickup truck owned by Robert Geiser, 56, was parked with the ignition off when the fire was discovered at about 11 p.m. There were no injuries. Damage is estimated at $8,000.
The fire was determined to be accidental in nature and originated in the engine compartment at the speed control deactivation switch located on the master cylinder. A recall was issued from Ford in 2005 for a problem with the switch. The recall indicated the switch may overheat, smoke or burn even if the vehicle was parked with the ignition off, police said.
