Rain interrupts MCR Saturday night program

EAST SMETHPORT –– The McKean County Raceway hosted a rare Saturday night event, but Mother Nature came in nearly halfway through the program to end the evening due to rain.

The big night of racing featuring eight divisions plus autograph night saw six divisions get their qualifying heats in the program before a drizzling rain set in.

“We tried to  hold out as we the track was still useable but the persistent rain wouldn’t leave us,” Chris Zuver, MCR promoter, said. “All day it was predicted to rain, but we had very little rain and we tried to beat Mother Nature at her own game, but she got the last laugh on us again.”

This puts MCR into two nights of racing this week with the 30th Annual Lee Anderson Memorial for the street stocks on the program for Thursday night along with their normal card for RUSH Late Models, RUSH Pro Mods, Pure Stocks, Mini Stocks and Mandy’s Young Guns. Thursday’s program starts at 7:30 p.m. Then on Sunday, the same six divisions will run again on the 3/8-mile oval with a 6 p.m. start time.

Race fans that were at MCR can use their wristbands from Saturday night’s postponed event for admission on Thursday or Sunday night races. The wristbands are also good for first night of the 11th annual MCR Fall Classic on Thursday, Sept. 28 when the conclusion of Saturday’s event will be completed to kick off the Fall Classic weekend.
