SMETHPORT — A Rixford woman who is facing allegations in two criminal cases — one a related to firearms and the other related to rape allegations — asked for a trial in the firearm case.
Julie A. Tipton, 36, appeared Thursday in McKean County Court for a last day to plea conference on both cases.
In the case she asked to go to trial, she faces two counts of allowing a prior felon to have access to a firearm, both first-degree misdemeanors, for allegations she allowed her husband, William J. Tipton, 51, to have access to two firearms in their home.
For the rape case — in which she allegedly had sexual contact with a 6-year-old boy who was in her care — the last day to plea conference has been continued to another date.
Julie Tipton, who had been jailed in McKean County, was granted a bail decrease from $100,000 to $65,000, and she was not incarcerated on Thursday when she appeared for court.
William Tipton is a codefendant in both cases. He was also scheduled for a last day to plea conference for cases against him, but the conference was continued.
Court records indicate he is in McKean County Jail in lieu of a total of $170,000 for both cases.
