SMETHPORT — A Smethport couple were arraigned Wednesday for allegedly endangering their infant child by not feeding her enough.
Ryan Daniel Paulson, 24, and Jenna René Scutt, 21, both of 157 Hamlin St., are each charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child, a first-degree misdemeanor.
According to court records, state police were notified by a caseworker with Children and Youth Services that the 3-month-old infant was underweight for her age, and hadn’t been seen by a doctor.
Police said both parents had been sent letters from a doctor’s office three times telling them they were past due to bring the child for a wellness checkup. The doctor’s staff called them several times as well, police said.
When the child was taken into custody of CYS, she was below one percent in the categories of weight and weight-to-length. When the child was admitted to the hospital, she began making significant gains, court records allege.
Both parents were released on unsecured bail, and are set to appear in Central Court July 20.
