SACRAMENTO, Calif. – On day three of action at the U.S track and field championships, Penn State senior Michael Shuey grabbed a bronze medal in the javelin Saturday afternoon
At Hornet Stadium on the campus of Sacramento State, Shuey broke his own PSU record on his third throw. After opening with two throws in the 230’s, Shuey’s third toss of the competition held strong as the throw that cemented his place on the medal stand as he finished the competition with a school record of 255′-8″ (77.94m) in third place.
Shuey posted two marks on the day further than his previous personal best of 250′-8″ (76.42m) as his fourth throw of the competition was 253′-8″ (77.32m).
Saturday was the Johnsonburg High graduate’s last day competing for Penn State, where he enjoyed a decorated collegiate career.
This spring, he finished third at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Historic Hayward Field to earn All-American honors. He is a previous Big 10 champion in the javelin.
In high school at Johnsonburg, Shuey won the javelin event as a senior at the 2012 state championships. In 2014 competing for the North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) at the U-23 Championships, Shuey – representing Team USA – won the javelin at the event held in British Columbia, Canada.
