The Frances Sherman VFW Auxiliary will be hosting a Father’s Day “dawg-fest” this Sunday.
The event will be from noon until 4 p.m., with a $5 hot dog buffet and numerous toppings.
Dads who attend eat free.
There will also be a Chinese auction, and is $10 per sheet (each sheet has 20 chances.)
Amy Peterson, president of the auxiliary, came up with the idea for the event, and according to Val Meacham, member of the auxiliary, Peterson is always coming up with new ideas to try that are unique.
“We are always game, we are a nonprofit and this is what we do. Raise money, take care of our veterans and our community,” said Meacham.
The auxiliary is hoping for a good turnout, and even though they know that families usually make plans for Father’s Day, they kept the time short and around lunch time in hopes for a decent crowd.
With there not being that many events in the area for Father’s Day, the VFW has always made sure to make the day a special priority.
According to Meacham, “Years ago we would host a Father’s Day brunch at the VFW and we haven’t done that in years. We always had a good turnout for that.”
The VFW Auxiliary members will be preparing the foods for the event.
The auxiliary will be purchasing the hot dogs and rolls, and the auxiliary members will fill in with the rest.
They are hoping for a nice day in order to be able to grill outside and enjoy the weather.
The VFW is a strong believer in helping the community when they can, thus they are always finding new fundraisers to help with costs.
The fundraisers help them be there for veterans in need, as well as those in local nursing homes, with visits and donations.
“When a call goes out for help for a fundraiser, auxiliary members are ready to pitch in. We are all involved, a well-oiled wheel when it comes to functions,” said Meacham.
Donated baskets will be making up the Chinese auction.
The drawing begins at 4 p.m., and benefits general auxiliary funds.
