The winner-less streak continues for the multi-state Powerball lottery, which as of Friday night was $435 million.
Last week it didn’t seem like the people of Bradford were eager at all to chase the dream of a huge lottery win, but all that has changed in a week as the jackpot kept growing.
Kevin May, four-year employee of the Crosby’s at Foster Brook, said he’s been getting swamped with Powerball players since he opened up the store.
“It gets crazy when the Powerball hits numbers that high,” he said. May said he isn’t an optimist, but he plans on playing the Powerball himself. “I’ve only ever seen people win about $40 or $50, but I figure why not,” he said.
At the Crosby on West Washington Street, Diane Pettit of Bradford was taking a chance on the lottery.
“I’m excited for this one. I play the Powerball two times a week,” she said. Pettit has hit it big with the lottery, but she thinks that this may be her lucky moment with the Powerball.
“I’ve never been interviewed for the paper before, so I’m taking it as a very good sign. I’ll let everyone know when I’ve won,” she said.
Robert Frost, an employee of the Crosby, is hopeful that someone in Bradford will win the jackpot.
“I’ve seen someone win $250 thousand playing the Cash 5 right here in this store. It can happen again with the Powerball. I might even play it myself,” he said.
The jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing would tie for the nation’s 10th largest lottery prize. The chance of winning the jackpot is one in 292.2 million. Powerball drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturdays and Wednesdays. The jackpot is still far from the highest it’s ever been, which was $1.6 billion, but if the winless streak continues it may very well climb up to similar numbers.
