COUDERSPORT—Cherry Springs State Park at 4639 Cherry Springs Road, Coudersport, has announced programs that will take place there over the next couple of weeks.
The events include Lunar Viewing on June 2 and 3 and Full Moon Hikes on June 9 and 10. Pre-registration is required for both events.
Lunar Viewing will take place from 9 to 10:15 p.m. June 2 or 3 at the Night Sky Viewing Area. Visitors are invited to take a visual journey to the moon to explore some of its fascinating features from highlands to volcanic plains and to see where lunar landings took place.
For the Full Moon Hike — a short interpretive hike on the Working Forest Trail — participants can take part between 8 and 9:30 p.m. by meeting at the kiosk near visitor parking on the east side of Route 44. They are invited to discover the history of the forest surrounding Cherry Springs State Park and why dark skies are so important to local wildlife. This hike will begin before dusk while the moon is rising and end near dark. Hikers should wear sturdy shoes, dress for the weather and bring a small flashlight, water and, if desired, a camera and binoculars.

The park is 12 miles from Galeton via West Branch Road and 15 miles from Coudersport via Route 44.
All visitors who plan to view the night skies are asked to arrive at the park before dark. People may observe on their own and do not have to attend a stargazing program. If it rains, thunders or is cloudy, all programs will be cancelled.
