ELDRED –– Along with a lot of hardware handed out at the Otto-Eldred Sports Banquet Saturday night, Larry Snyder was recognized for 50 years of service as a scorekeeper for the Otto-Eldred basketball and volleyball games.
Snyder had been a part of Otto-Eldred since 1966.
He was a principal, teacher, coach and scorekeeper for O-E. He has scored more than 2000 junior high, junior varsity and varsity games in his 50 years. Athletic Director Ed Reitler presented Snyder with a wood engraved plaque during the dedication and a blue and gold O-E pullover jacket. He also received a few other gifts, as the audience gave him a standing round of applause for his service.
Snyder has been a staple in the Terror Dome and he plans to keep scoring games.
“I will keep scorekeeping, it’s something I love to do,” Snyder said.
The guest speaker for the evening was Lance Baker. Baker starting teaching in 1982 and served as the athletic director for 17 years.
He coached many successful seasons of football, basketball and track during his time at O-E. He was the Big 30 Coach of the Year in 1997 and a two-time North Tier League Coach of the Year.
Baker addressed all the success that the Otto-Eldred athletic teams accomplished this school year. He read a quote to the student-athletes that he keeps in his classroom reminding them that their attitude is everything.
Finally, two foreign exchange students were honored for their time as O-E athletes. Juan Bosco Ramiro Alonso from Madrid, Spain, who participated in the football, basketball, baseball and track programs and Michelle Pfeiffer from Harsewinkel, Germany, participated in the volleyball, basketball and track programs.
