It appeared that Jody Bloomquist had won the Republican nomination for McKean County controller Tuesday.
According to unofficial results from the county election office, Bloomquist had 1,361 votes to Dustin Laurie’s 1,298 tallies.
Bloomquist graduated from Kane Area High School in 1985. He earned Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1990.
He was employed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons from 1990 through 2015, starting out as an accountant at FCI-McKean. He worked there for six years, then transferred several times to several duty stations before settling in Washington, D.C., in 2000.
For 10 years he served as chief of accounting policies, a post in which he wrote accounting policies and internal controls for more than 750 financial management positions located at 120 prisons.
Before retiring in 2015, Bloomquist served as deputy chief of the finance branch for 3½ years. He was responsible for managing the Office of the Inspector General’s independent audit of the BOP’s financial statements. He also accounted for the BOP’s annual $6.8 billion budget and more than $6 billion in property. Bloomquist also supervised a financial management staff of 90 positions.
“Upon retiring from the prison system, I returned home to McKean County with the hopes of using my experience to benefit the community I grew up in, the people I have long lasting relationships with, and the area I missed so dearly while I was away,” he said. “Many of the responsibilities of the county controller are in areas that I had been performing and excelling at for the federal prison system for my entire career. The county controller position is the perfect fit to utilize my education and experience to serve the citizens of McKean County.”
