MARILYN: We’re excited for today’s opening of the much-anticipated Marilyn Horne Museum & Exhibit Center.
Here are some reminders about the festivities — the dedication ceremony will take place under heated tents at 2 p.m. in Veterans Square; parking will be available at the City of Bradford parking lot on Pine Street and the Pitt-Bradford lot on the corner of South Avenue and West Corydon Street, in addition to regular city parking lots and metered parking. Additional parking is available at the Church of the Ascension at 26 Chautauqua Place and First Presbyterian Church at 54 East Corydon St.
At 3 p.m., public tours of the museum begin. Tours will include the first floor of Marilyn Horne Hall, snacks, sampling of Starbucks coffee and a small gift.
And at 5 p.m., a free recital will be held at Bromeley Family Theater on the campus of Pitt-Bradford.
For anyone who can’t make it today, museum hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
BELIEVE: Bradfordian Donald Neal sent us this poem, aptly titled “I Believe.”
I believe in God and Country, I believe all the world should be free.
I believe in the creation of the universe. And in outer space what we cannot see.
I believe that there should be no hate, because of the color of your skin.
I believe it is not what you see outside, but the beauty that is held within.
All men are born with a conscience, to live by the morals they’ve been taught.
To have love and respect for every person, And for peace in our world to be sought.
I believe in freedom of religion, to whatever God you want to pray.
I believe this is every man’s choice, to live by that choice every day.
I believe in a place called America, where peace and freedom all people seek.
We don’t know what will happen tomorrow, we can’t even have a little peek.
Each new day will bring to you, A new beginning a new surprise.
I believe what we do tomorrow, will last the rest of our lives.
What has been done today, Tomorrow will become history.
We can make America better, Just try and you will see.
Believe in your country America, and think of why you are here.
You have to keep America strong, and it will last for many a year.
