SMETHPORT — The McKean County Family Centers, a program of The Guidance Center, and community leaders have come together to celebrate Pennsylvania One Book, Every Young Child Literacy Initiative during the month of April.
This year’s featured book is “Daniel Finds a Poem” by Micha Archer.
McKean County Sheriff Dan Woods visited the Smethport Family Center to read this year’s featured story to children attending Parent–Child Group: Birth to 5 at the Family Center. Each family attending was given the featured book to read and enjoy together at home.
This is the 12th year of this literacy program that emphasizes the importance of reading early and often to children, as well as engaging them in conversation and other activities around books. Reading aloud to children is an important factor in literacy development and one of the best activities one can do to prepare a child for school.
