Things could get a bit spooky at the Bradford Mall.
Spirit Halloween is in negotiations for a short-term lease to fill a spot most recently occupied by Carolina Furniture, next to Tractor Supply, Rick Recckio of Recckio Real Estate said.
Spirit Halloween –– claiming the status of largest seasonal Halloween retailer –– is seeking a store manager for Bradford. The closest Spirit Halloween store has been located in Olean, N.Y., in past seasons.
Meanwhile, an ALDI grocery store, planned on the lot adjacent to the Taco Bell, could be open late fall, J.R. Perry, ALDI Saxonburg division vice president, said.
“ALDI has done all their due diligence and engineering on the Bradford Mall outparcel,” said Patrick Higgins, director of development for MBC Development LP, the mall developer. “We hope to close shortly and commence construction this summer.”
The store is expected to be 20,000 square feet, he said.
“We look forward to bringing the Bradford community high-quality groceries at everyday low prices and will be sure to follow up when we have more information to share regarding the grand opening date and festivities,” Perry said. “At this time, it is too early to share the specific location of the new store. We look forward to sharing more details as the grand opening date approaches.”
Also at the mall in recent days, workers have been seen breaking up concrete alongside Dunham’s Sports after tearing down the garden section of the former Kmart building.
Unconfirmed reports state that Big Lots will relocate to the other half of the former Kmart building and that another business has looked at filling the current Big Lots spot.
Big Lots spokeswoman Colleen Cleary had nothing to report on the matter Wednesday.
All told, the Bradford Mall area has been seeing a resurgence of businesses in recent years with the addition of Sheetz, Vagabond’s End Games & Hobbies and Taco Bell.
The mall area also has Tractor Supply, Dollar Tree, PHOENIX Rehabilitation and Health Services Inc. physical therapy, The Cellular Connection, Label Shopper, Big Lots, Pebbles and Dunham’s.
