Elk Catholic 11, Bradford 4
ST. MARYS — A day after a nice win over Punxsutawney, Bradford couldn’t come up with a repeat performance as the Owls (3-5) fell to Elk Catholic 11-4.
“We were just giving away runs,” coach Andy Carlson said. “We had six errors and probably a few more that could have been ruled that way. You can’t win a baseball game playing that way.”
Jack Pecora finished with two hits for the Owls, while Caleb Nuzzo banged a two-run single. Tyler Gigliotti, Derek Sunafrank, and Dan Manion also notched base hits.
Joe Kucenski notched two hits including a double, while Frank Singer drove in two runs for the Crusaders (6-2). Starter Brad Dippold had a solid outing, going five plus innings while striking out five and walking three.
“They’re a good team that we can play with,” Carlson said. “They didn’t play their best game today but they were certainly better than us.”
Bradford will play visit Brookville today for its third game in three days.
“That’s the great thing about baseball,” Carlson said. “There’s always tomorrow.”

SMETHPORT — Smethport built a 9-2 lead after three innings, survived a shaky fifth and held on to defeat visiting Northern Potter 10-7 in high school baseball action on Tuesday.
The Hubbers scored five runs in the bottom of the first and then got doubles from Robbie Ruffner (two RBI), Bryce Hale and Orion Alexis in a four-run third for what looked like a comfortable lead.
The Panthers, however, got their offense on track in the fifth using Tucker Kosa’s two-run double to put four runs on the board and make it a 10-6 game.
“We had a little let down in the fifth and their four runs got them back in the game,” Smethport coach Colby Austin said. “We overcame it and were able to finish it off and get the win.”
Grant Ognen and Matt Stratton shared mound duties for the Hubbers. They gave up six hits and fanned 11 batters.
NoPo used three pitchers with Tucker Kosa getting the start, followed by Foster Kosa and Blake Jeffery. The trio surrendered 10 hits.
Smethport (2-3) travels to Otto-Eldred on Thursday.
