Track roundup: Coudy sweeps, Port Allegany tops Cameron County

COUDERSPORT — Both Coudersport track teams improved to 5-0 on the season with convincing wins over Oswayo Valley on Tuesday.

The boys cruised to a 138-9 victory led by Michael Kane, who finished with an individual double (long jump, triple jump) plus two relay wins (400, 1,600). Derek Keglovits (400, 800, 1,600 relay) and Aaron Haskins (1,600 relay, 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles) both contributed to three wins apiece.

Other double winners for Coudy included Nick Bejmovicz (100, 200), Tristan Amell (1,600, 3,200), Hunter Ricke (high jump, javelin), and Luke Barshinger (shot put, discus). Isaac Wright added a victory in the pole vault.

The Lady Falcons won 110-22 thanks to an individual triple from Adrian Page, who won the shot put, discus, and javelin, while also running in the winning 1,600 relay. Tianna Bowser (800, pole vault) and Casey Kole (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) both earned doubles, while other firsts came from Lauren Steimaker (100), Dana Dubots (400), Haley Keck (1,600), Kiara Perkins (triple jump), and Skyler VanWagenen (high jump). Coudersport swept all three relays.

Coudy will be participating in the Kane Invitational on Saturday.

DUKE CENTER — The Otto-Eldred boys track improved to 4-2 with wins over both Northern Potter and Sheffield in Tuesday’s tri-meet.

Jesse Bennett earned a triple with wins in the long jump, triple jump, and pole vault. Brady Valerius (100, 200) and Jordan Sherwood (shot put, discus) both earned doubles, while Ethan Flexman (800, 3,200 relay) and Jordan Brown (1,600, 3,200 relay) both contributed to two wins each.

“It was a good job by Bennett winning three jumping events and Valerius looks to be improving steadily,” O-E coach Boyd Fitzsimmons said.

Tavien Jenkins (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles) earned a double for Sheffield, while other winners included Keith Redman (400), Dan Laffenberger (3,200), Kevin Evans (high jump), and Tanner Leichtenberger (javelin).

The Lady Terrors (2-4) earned a split, topping Sheffield 71-14 while falling to Northern Potter 101-37.

Tiffany Bair came away with three wins, topping the 100, long jump, and triple jump.

“She’s been a very consistent, solid performer,” Fitzsimmons said.

German exchange student Michelle Pfeiffer won both the shot put and the javelin, while Camryn Thomas added a win in the high jump.

For Northern Potter, Gracie Hamilton (200, 400) and Emma Ford (800, 1,600) both earned doubles, while other individual victories came from Amanda Ford (3,200), Morgan Palmatier (100 hurdles), Ashley Kunselman (discus), and Rutana Reed (300 hurdles).

Both Terrors teams will be at the Kane Invitational on Friday.

Port Allegany 88.5, Cameron County 52.5

Port Allegany 83, Cameron County 52

EMPORIUM — Kamme Guisto quadrupled for Cameron County, but the Lady Red Raiders (1-4) came out on the short end of an 83-52 decision to Port Allegany in a dual track and field meet that was swept by the Gators on Tuesday.

Guisto took first place in four individual events, winning all three jumps (long, high, triple) and the 300 hurdles.

Autumn Buchsenschutz tripled (200, 800 run and 100 hurdles) and Rosey Thomas doubled for the Lady Gators.

In the boys portion of the meet, David Talkington’s triple, also achieved by winning the three jumps, and three firsts by Bryce Baker (200, 110 and 300 hurdles) led the Gators to an 88.5 to 52.5 victory.

Backing Talkington’s and Baker’s performances was a double by Anton Freyer.

For Cameron County (2-4), Nate Williams doubled.

“We had a lot of personal bests by both our boys and girls teams,” said Shawn Bidwell, Cameron County coach. “We had a meet on Monday so we tried to mix things up … the kids did well and I’m proud of them.”

Both Cameron County squads return to action Saturday at the Kane Invitational.

At the conclusion of Tuesday’s meet, the throwers from both schools ran the traditional 1600 relay with the winners keeping the baton.

The Red Raiders’ Nate Williams, Shakaan Gladden, Jared Whiting and Tristan Reed beat the Gators to take possession for the next year.

“It’s something for school spirit and it’s been going on for years,” Bidwell explained. “Cameron County hasn’t won it for quite a while.”
