DUKE CENTER — Emily Treat’s pitching and run producing doubles by Sam Tanner and Meagan DeLuca ended Smethport’s four-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over Otto-Eldred in high school softball action on Thursday.
Treat recorded six strikeouts and gave up four walks in going the distance on the mound. She also worked her way out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth and O-E runners at first and second in the seventh, to nail down the win.
“There were no outs when Otto loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth,” Smethport coach Jon Peterson explained.
At the plate, Tanner belted a two-run single in the fourth to break the scoreless tie and then DeLuca ripped an RBI two-bagger in the seventh to account for the Lady Hubbers final score.
“This was our first win,” said Jon Peterson, Smethport coach. “We’ve played some pretty decent competition and today the girls learned how to win.”
Shelander was the losing pitcher for Otto-Eldred (1-3). She also finished with a two-hitter, had three strikeouts and gave up six walks. Shelander also added a double at the plate.
Smethport (1-4) will be idle now until April 24 when the Lady Hubbers travel to Oswayo Valley.

Brockway 11, Cameron County 8
BROCKWAY –– Cameron County’s offense came to play, but could never fully recover from a big, first-inning deficit.
A dropped foul ball by the Lady Red Raiders would have given Brockway (2-3) two outs. Instead, Brockway ripped off six straight hits and went up 7-0.
“We outplayed them the last six innings,” Cameron County coach Ralph McKimm said. “We had a rough first inning.”
Laila Smith took the pitching loss for Cameron County (5-2), giving up 11 hits, striking out three, walking two and hitting a batter. At the plate, she was 3-for-4 with three singles.
