Lady Hubbers blank O-E, Oswayo Valley edges Northern Potter

    NORTHERN ALLEGHENY

DUKE CENTER  — Emily Treat’s pitching and run producing doubles by Sam Tanner and Meagan DeLuca ended Smethport’s four-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over Otto-Eldred in high school softball action on Thursday.

Treat recorded six strikeouts and gave up four walks in going the distance on the mound. She also worked her way out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth and O-E runners at first and second in the seventh, to nail down the win.

“There were no outs when Otto loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth,” Smethport coach Jon Peterson explained.

At the plate, Tanner belted a two-run single in the fourth to break the scoreless tie and then DeLuca ripped an RBI two-bagger in the seventh to account for the Lady Hubbers final score.

“This was our first win,” said Jon Peterson, Smethport coach. “We’ve played some pretty decent competition and today the girls learned how to win.”

Shelander was the losing pitcher for Otto-Eldred (1-3). She also finished with a two-hitter, had three strikeouts and gave up six walks. Shelander also added a double at the plate.

Smethport (1-4) will be idle now until April 24 when the Lady Hubbers travel to Oswayo Valley.

Oswayo Valley 7, Northern Potter 5

SHINGLEHOUSE — The Lady Green Wave (2-2) notched three runs in the bottom of the sixth to emerge with a come-from-behind victory over the Northern Potter (0-5).

Shayla Bickel had a great day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Karina West was also a key contributor, finishing with two hits and two runs driven in.

Madi Nudd pitched the majority of the game out of the bullpen, striking out seven and walking just two. She also added two hits at the plate.

“We played much better defense today than we have recently,” OV coach Tim Morey said. “The team is starting to round into a team. We got key hits when we needed them, which wasn’t the case in our last game.”

Tory McCutcheon struck out five and walked two for the Lady Panthers, to go along with two hits and three runs scored.

    NON-LEAGUE

    Brockway 11, Cameron County 8

BROCKWAY –– Cameron County’s offense came to play, but could never fully recover from a big, first-inning deficit.

A dropped foul ball by the Lady Red Raiders would have given Brockway (2-3) two outs. Instead, Brockway ripped off six straight hits and went up 7-0.

“We outplayed them the last six innings,” Cameron County coach Ralph McKimm said. “We had a rough first inning.”

Laila Smith took the pitching loss for Cameron County (5-2), giving up 11 hits, striking out three, walking two and hitting a batter. At the plate, she was 3-for-4 with three singles.

Also providing offense for Cameron County were Amily Schatz (3-for-4, two doubles, single), Alyvia McKimm (2-for-4, two doubles) and Payton Bloom, who was 2-for-3 with a triple and single.

Katie Dowdall (two strikeouts, walk, 12 hits) was the winning pitcher for Brockway.

Cameron County next plays Wednesday vs. Northern Potter.

    Coudersport 12, Cowanesque Valley 11

COUDERSPORT — The Lady Falcons rebounded from a rough third inning with a couple of big innings of their own to come out on top.

After Cowanesque Valley put up a seven-run third inning, Coudersport (6-0) answered with three runs in the fifth and six runs in the sixth.

“I’m real proud of my girls,” Coudy coach Dan Counts said. “They never gave up. They battled for every inch. Cowanesque Valley’s a hitting team but we never lost faith.”

Leading the way at the plate was Macy Gleason, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles, as well as Shaelyn Black (3-for-4, two RBI) and Chelsea Streich (2-for-4, RBI).

Black also earned the win out of the bullpen, striking out five and yielding no walks.

“That was her first time pitching this year and she did a very commendable job,” Counts said.

Emma McClaren went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer for Cowanesque Valley.

The Lady Falcons will travel to Johnsonburg on Tuesday.
