A Bradford man died after a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on West Washington Street in Bradford Township.
Township police say that Timothy T. Lewis, 55, of Bradford, died in the accident that occurred just after 3 p.m.
A sport-utility vehicle driven by Lewis was traveling west when the vehicle crossed the road into the eastbound lane hitting an Asplundh Tree Expert Co. vehicle. The commercial vehicle attempted to avoid the collision by traveling off the south berm of the road, police say. Both vehicles subsequently caught fire.
The occupants of the commercial vehicle –– driver Brian Kunselman, 34, of Cyclone, and passenger Nolan Wymer, 53, of Eldred, were able to escape, police say.
Meanwhile, local residents removed Lewis from the burning vehicle, police say.
Coroner Michael Cahill pronounced Lewis deceased at the scene.
Emergency responders shut down West Washington Street from Lang Maid Lane to Hedgehog Lane for several hours Tuesday.
Township police were assisted by the township volunteer fire department, Bradford City Ambulance, Bradford City Police Department and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford police. The investigation is ongoing, police say.
