A Bradford man is in McKean County Jail for allegedly fighting with two police officers early Friday morning — even after being tased twice.
James Douglas Morris Porter, 26, of 91 School St. Apt. 4, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, second-degree felonies; two counts of simple assault, second-degree misdemeanors; one count of resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor; and one count each of loitering and prowling at night and disorderly conduct, third-degree misdemeanors; and one summary count of public drunkenness.
According to court records, at 1:17 a.m. Friday, an officer witnessed Porter run across Boylston Street carrying a sweatshirt, and then running into the backyard of a residence and trying unsuccessfully to jump a fence. The officer got out to search for Porter because of his behavior. The officer found him hiding behind a barbecue grill and asked him to show his hands.
Porter refused, court records read. A second officer arrived, and both attempted to get Porter to show his hands. Instead, he got up and walked away, heading to the fence again. He put his hands on the fence, and an officer tried to bring his hand around behind his back to cuff him. However, Porter resisted. He was told to comply, or he would be tased. Again, he resisted and was tased, but both probes did not make contact with him, court records read.
Porter then attempted to punch the officer who was trying to restrain him. The two grappled for a moment before Porter pushed the officer over a bush and onto the ground. The other policeman grabbed him and pulled him to the ground, according to court records.
Porter continued to resist the officers, and was tased a second time. He continued to resist the officers, who eventually were able to cuff his hands. Both officers had to take Porter to the patrol car, because he continued to refuse to comply. At the police station, he had to be physically removed from the car. He continued to resist once inside the station, court records read.
Both officers suffered minor injuries.
Porter was arraigned before District Judge Rich Luther and remanded to jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court March 16.
