A couple living at 3282 W. Washington St. lost their home to a fire Wednesday night in Corydon Township, said Corydon Township Volunteer Fire Chief Matt Cobb.
No one was injured, he said.
Cobb said the Corydon and Bradford Township volunteer fire departments were called to the fire about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, with about 15 firefighters responding.
They were on scene for about four hours, Cobb said.
“The wind made it a little more challenging,” Cobb said. He noted the wind blowing the house fire sparked some wildfires near the home, but firefighters kept them all contained, keeping them from amounting to anything significant.
The house was a total loss, according to Cobb. He believes the fire was accidental in nature, but the exact cause is still under investigation.
The house is owned by Cory Waite, who lived there with his girlfriend.
“They were not home when the fire started,” said Cobb, adding they found it when they returned. Cobb did not believe the American Red Cross was assisting the couple, as local family members were helping.
