Today is the first day to circulate nomination petitions for the May primary election, and this year looks to be a busy one for local races.
Countywide, there are four seats up for election. Those are the four-year term of controller, currently held by Tom Ball; a four-year term of prothonotary and clerk of courts, held by Laura Isadore; a four-year term of sheriff, held by Dan Woods; and a four-year term of treasurer, held by Mary Jo Sherwood.
The county’s four district judge seats are up as well. The seats are currently held by Dominic Cercone in Bradford, Rich Luther in Foster Township, Bill Todd in Smethport and David Engman in Kane.
In the City of Bradford, three four-year terms on city council will be up for election as well.
All five school districts in McKean County have seats up in the primary election. In Bradford Area School District, there are four terms of four years each, and one two-year term; in Kane Area School District, there are four terms of four years each, and one two-year term; and in Port Allegany, four terms of four years each and two terms of two years each.
At the Otto-Eldred School District, there is one four-year term and one two-year term in Region 1; two four-year terms and one two-year term in Region II; and one four-year term in Region III.
At the Smethport Area School District, there is one two-year term and one four-year term in Region I; in Region II, there were two four-year terms; and in Region III, there is one four-year term.
Every township in McKean County has one six-year term of supervisor up for election this year — Annin, Bradford, Ceres, Corydon, Eldred, Foster, Hamilton, Hamlin, Keating, Lafayette, Liberty, Norwich, Otto, Sergeant and Wetmore. Sergeant Township also has a two-year position for supervisor up for election as well.
Each borough’s mayor position will be up for election, and at least one council seat. The boroughs of Eldred, Kane, Lewis Run, Mount Jewett, Port Allegany and Smethport each have four-year terms of mayor up for election. Eldred Borough has two four-year terms on council, and one two-year term on council up for election also. Kane Borough has three four-year terms and one two-year term.
Lewis Run has three four-year terms, while Mount Jewett and Port Allegany both have four terms of four years up.
Smethport will have four terms of four years each up for election, as well as one two-year term.
The only statewide races on the ballot in the primary will be for judges. One Supreme Court justice will be on the ballot, as will four Superior Court and two Commonwealth Court judge positions.
March 7 is the last day to circulate and file nomination petitions. April 17 is the last day to register before the May 16 primary.
