Bradford City firefighters responded to 27 Whitehead Ave. on Sunday afternoon for a chimney fire. Lt. Cathy Mealy of the Bradford City Fire Department explained a Good Samaritan saw flames coming from the chimney, and the department was called at 12:37 p.m. The fire was isolated to the chimney and vent pipe, and firefighters were able to put out the blaze and stop it from getting to the house. She cited the call from the bystander as being a big help in keeping the incident from being much worse. Mealy said no civilians were injured, but one firefighter suffered minor abrasions when his foot went through the floor. The two adults and four children renting the home are safe and will be able to keep living there, she indicated. Firefighters were on scene for about an hour. Bradford City Police assisted.
