Many people are just a heartbeat away from cardiac disease and do not know it.
Luckily, Bradford has a renown cardiologist who does not take cardiac health in vain.
Dr. Steven Herrmann, Eastern Regional Director of Cardiac Care for UPMC Hamot, Heart and Vascular Institute, will get to the heart of the matter during this month’s Girls’ Night Out.
Herrmann will give a brief presentation on Thursday at the Bradford Club. He will also answer questions about heart disease.
The event, which runs from 6 to 9 p.m., will include a buffet featuring heart-healthy food. The cost is $15 per person and is payable at the door.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. Coronary heart disease costs the United States a total of $108.9 billion each year and is the most common type of heart disease, according to national research. Together, heart disease and stroke cost more than $312.6 billion in health care expenditures and lost productivity annually.
“We are very fortunate to have someone like Dr. Herrmann in our community,” said organizer Karen Pecht. “I am hopeful all the ladies seize this wonderful opportunity to hear from one of the best cardiologists in the country who we are blessed to have right here in Bradford.”
Those who attend are also encouraged to wear red in support of February being Heart Health Month.
Women do not need to be a member of the Bradford Club to attend. Reservations are encouraged by calling the Bradford Club at 814-368-3613.
