Comedy writer and fart-joke connoisseur Charlie Schulman will visit the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford next week to perform his one-man show “The Funniest Play Ever.”

Schulman will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Mukaiyama University Room of the Frame-Westerberg Commons. The show is free and open to the public.

“I’ve heard readings from Charlie’s work and attended many talks by him,” said Dr. Nancy McCabe, professor of writing, who invited Schulman to campus.

“I felt writing students and in particular this semester’s dramatic writing class could benefit from his knowledge about the creative process and the business of writing for stage and screen.”

In addition to performing, Schulman will work with writing students during his visit.

Schulman is the recipient of the Charles MacArthur Award for Comedy and has written for “The Apollo Comedy Hour” and “The Osbournes.”

His theatrical writing includes a one-act, quick-change comedy “Natural History X,” where Schulman performs all nine roles, and an off-Broadway musical called “The Fartiste” about the professional farter and entertainer Joseph Pujol.

That show was awarded Best Musical at the 2006 New York International Fringe Festival. He is currently working on a new show, “GOLDSTEIN.”

Schulman regularly shares his talents with students, teaching playwriting and screenwriting at New York University’s Tisch School of The Arts and at Spalding University’s low residency MFA Program.
