SMETHPORT (EC) — McKean County Treasurer Mary Jo Sherwood has announced her candidacy for re-election on the Republican ticket at the May 16 primary election.
According to the office’s website, the treasurer collects, receives, accounts for, deposits, invests, reports, manages and reconciles all revenue due and payable to the county from internal and external sources.
A 16-year veteran of the office and former first deputy treasurer, Sherwood served as acting treasurer for a year and a-half following Nancy Evans’ retirement in 2012. She was elected to a full four-year term in 2013.
“I am committed to the growth and vitality of the county and have very much enjoyed serving our citizens,” Sherwood said. “My term as treasurer has flown by, but the accomplishments of this office to make the services better, have been many, especially in the process for paying taxes and issuing various licenses.”
In the community, Sherwood is a member of the John Berg Memorial American Legion Post Auxiliary, Smethport Rotary Club and volunteers with the American Cancer Society.
Sherwood and her husband , Kermit, reside in Norwich Township. They have three children and seven grandchildren.
