A Philadelphia man is facing allegations he was selling marijuana on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, allegedly telling police it was to help pay his tuition.
Donald Allan Albritton, 19, of 2239 N. Woodstock St., was arraigned Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Richard Luther on charges of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony; possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors, court records stated.
Court records said at 8:54 p.m. Monday, University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Police were called to Walt Whitman House, Apt. 11, because someone smelled marijuana coming from the apartment’s door. A student in the apartment opened the door and let the officers in. Believing the marijuana odor was coming from upstairs, the officers announced their presence loudly and asked anyone who was upstairs to come downstairs to the common area. Albritton came to the bottom of the stairs and asked what the officers needed, and police explained that a housemate let them in because they received a report that the smell of marijuana was coming from the apartment, court records read.
Albritton said he did not know where the smell was coming from. When officers asked, he granted permission for them to search his room. He took two campus police officers to his room, where they saw in plain view multiple bags, large and small, several of which contained suspected marijuana. Albritton was placed under arrest and taken to the campus police station, the criminal complaint read.
He accompanied police and a campus official back to his dorm room and gave consent for a search. Chief Dan Songer arrived at the apartment, and Albritton told him he had more drugs in a strong box under his bed. He told police he was selling the drugs because he couldn’t afford tuition, according to the criminal complaint.
He was also found to be in possession of a BB gun and a scale, court records read.
He was remanded to McKean County Jail in Smethport in lieu of $25,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Jan. 12.
