Late McCaslin free throws lift Port Allegany to title

PORT ALLEGANY – It took an extra frame to determine the champion of Port Allegany Tournament, but in the end the host Gators prevailed, beating Smethport 31-29.

Brandon McCaslin was the leading scorer for the Gators, finishing with 14 points.

It was a pair of free throws made by McCaslin that were the difference in the overtime period.

“McCaslin was able to get to the line and he was able to make his shots,” Port Allegany coach Jeff Stuckey said.

    Galeton 44, Austin 34

PORT ALLEGANY – The Galeton boys used a strong fourth quarter to hold off Austin 44-34 on Tuesday night in the third place game of the Port Allegany Tournament.

The Tigers scored 16 points in the final frame to pull away late. Evan Brooks scored a game-high 18 points, while Isaiah Shumaker added 11 of his own.

Mason Valenti (11 points) and Blake Burgett (10) were the leading scorers for the Panthers.

Galeton will travel to face Bucktail on Thursday in a non-league game, while Austin is off until Jan. 5 when they will once again face the Tigers.

    Kane 63, Youngsville 39

SHEFFIELD – The Kane boys emerged triumphant in the opening game of the Sheffield Sports Boosters Tournament on Tuesday, defeating Youngsville 63-39.

The Wolves used a big second-half to distance themselves. Andrew Bucheit led the way with 20 points, while Chad Greville sank five 3-pointers en route to 17 points.

Brady Kesterholt (17 points) and Wyatt Rugar (10) finished in double figures for Youngsville.

Kane will face Sheffield, a 65-54 winner over Union, in the championship game at 7:30 p.m. today. Youngsville will take on Union in the third-place game at 6 p.m.
