Girls basketball roundup: O-E defeats Smethport

DUKE CENTER — The Otto-Eldred girls improved to 2-0 in league play and 5-2 overall with a 54-43 North Tier League basketball victory over Smethport (2-2, 0-2) on Thursday night.

Ali Cousins (18 points, 3 steals) and Camryn Thomas (17 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals) led the Lady Terrors.

Abbey Woodard led Smethport with a team-high 13 points as well as eight rebounds and four steals, while Emily Treat notched three 3-pointers for nine points.

“It was a long week for the girls before the break,” Otto coach Barb Close said. “We were able to stay focused with a couple kids not feeling very well. Smethport is doing some awesome things with a limited roster.”

    Galeton 66, OV 43

SHINGLEHOUSE — Galeton (3-1, 1-1) came up with a huge league win, beating Oswayo Valley (5-2, 1-1) thanks to a dominant first quarter.

Cortney Parsell and Makaya Shadle both scored 20 points for Galeton, which raced out to a 18-2 first-quarter lead.

Shayla Bickel led OV with 14 points, while Abby Matthews contributed eight points and 10 rebounds.

“We were far down in the hole to start,” Oswayo Valley head coach Kelly Rice said. “After the first we kept pace with them. We have to go back to the gym and figure out how to get better in the first quarter.”

    Ellicottville 47, Port A. 32

ELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y. — Marissa Hamilton posted another triple double Thursday, helping keep Ellicottville’s girls basketball team undefeated with a win over Port Allegany.

Hamilton, a senior University at Buffalo recruit guard/forward, had team-highs with 19 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks. Sophomore Linnea Jimerson chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds.

Autumn Buchsenschutz scored 15 points to lead Port Allegany (3-3).

“It was a good all around game,” said Eagles coach Chad Bartoszek. “Defensively we did really well. Going into the fourth we had only given up 19 points. Hamilton and (Emmalea) Erlandson were really controlling the middle and obviously Hamilton was huge with 10 blocks.”

    Cameron Co. 70, Austin 17

EMPORIUM — Cameron County (2-2 overall, 1-0 NTL) put three players in double figures en route to a win over Austin.

Madison Harrier (26 points), Madi Guisto (21 points) and Alyvia McKimm (11 points) led the winners. In addition, Guisto had 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals, Harrier 19 rebounds and Amily Shatz 11 rebounds.

Madison Hooftallen scored nine points for the Lady Panthers.
