A Coudersport man was arraigned Thursday on theft allegations for allegedly taking money from a Bradford woman for contracting work on her home, which he never performed.
Drexel Connelly, 52, is charged with theft by deception, deceptive business practices and home improvement fraud, all third-degree felonies.
Court records said in January 2016, a High Street woman reported to police that she had hired Connelly on Dec. 26, 2015, to perform construction work at her home. The total amount of the bid was $10,070. She gave him a check for $5,000 to purchase necessary materials for the work.
Police said Connelly cashed the check, but the victim was unable to reach him after that despite several attempts. During the investigation, police determined that Connelly was not a licensed contractor, court records read.
Connelly was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Dom Cercone and released on $10,000 percentage bail. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Jan. 5.
