UPB women get past Mount Aloysius

LORETTA – The Pitt-Bradford women’s basketball team erased an early 13-point deficit Saturday to win its second straight AMCC game, defeating Mount Aloysius 78-68.

The Mounties scored the game’s first 13 points, sparked by three consecutive three-pointers, to put the Panthers in a significant hole after just two and a half minutes of play. Ali Rinfrette and Kaserra Owens combined to score nine of the next 10 points to settle the Panthers, who eventually trailed by six at the end of the first quarter.

Trailing 29-18, Pitt-Bradford ripped off 12 straight points, capped by Anna Colebert’s three, to take its first lead of the game, 30-29, at the 4:05 mark of the second quarter. Shirleah Ragin connected on a three-pointer, and Rinfrette’s layup with 13 seconds left in the half gave Pitt-Bradford a 40-34 lead at the break.

Breana Kendrick scored five consecutive points midway through third to help Mt. Aloysius erase the halftime deficit and go ahead 48-47. Rinfrette drilled a three-pointer two possessions later, and the Panthers would close out the frame on an 11-2 run to lead 59-49.

Colebert drained a three to start the fourth quarter, and Pitt-Bradford went 8 of 9 from the free throw over the final three minutes to preserve the win.

Pitt-Bradford finished the game going 23 of 29 from the charity stripe to offset shooting only 37 percent from the field. The Panthers hit nine three-pointers and limited Mt. Aloysius to 31 percent shooting. The Mounties totaled 11 made threes and scored 13 second-chance points.

Rinfrette finished with a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds, and Brittany Watts posted her first double-double of the season, totaling 14 points and 10 boards. Owens tallied eight points, nine rebounds and a team-high five assists.

Pitt-Bradford improves to 4-5 on the season and 3-1 in the AMCC. The Panthers will return to action Dec. 28 versus John Jay in New York City.
