Girls basketball: Coudy rallies for win over Wellsboro

WELLSBORO – After scoring just two points in the first quarter, Coudersport rallied for 36 second-half points to open the season with a 50-42 win over Wellsboro in a non-league game Monday night.

Hailey Keck scored 17 and added five steals for the Lady Falcons, while EmmaRae Easton (seven points, 10 rebounds) and Kiara Perkins (eight points, 11 rebounds) came close to double-doubles. Ally Easton chipped in with 11 points.

“We had a tough time,” Coudersport head coach Chris Fink. “We did not shoot the ball particularly well in the first half. Those girls kept fighting.”

Coudersport shot 8-for-15 from the free-throw line, while Wellsboro (1-2) shot just once. Elizabeth Poirier scored 21 for the home team.

“We were a bigger team,” Fink said, noting Wellsboro was a jump-shooting team. “Whether it was offensive rebounds or getting the ball inside. We got the ball inside more than they did.”

    Oswayo Valley 39, Friendship 29

FRIENDSHIP, N.Y. — Sara Malogrino scored a game-high 16 points to lead Oswayo Valley (2-0).

Shayla Bickel added 10 points for the Green Wave, while Friendship (1-2) was paced by McKenzie Boutwell’s eight points and 14 rebounds.

    O-E 55, Ike 27

DUKE CENTER — Senior captain Tiffany Bair recorded a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 boards to send Otto-Eldred past Eisenhower in a non-league game.

Camryn Thomas added 15 points and eight rebounds as the Lady Terrors improved to 1-1.

Kirsten Baran led Ike (1-2) with 12 tallies.

“We played a lot better as a team,” O-E coach Barb Close said. “It was a nice win. Nine kids scored. We’re still fine-tuning things, but we looked a lot better.”

    O-E hosts Bradford today.
