HERMITAGE — Bradford High’s Tyler Thompson and Dillon Keane won wrestling titles at the Hickory tournament Saturday.
Thompson (138 pounds) went 5-0 in the two-day event, beating Kenton Gumee from Northwestern by pin (4:00) in the championship match.
Keane (145 pounds) went 5-0, winning by decision 4-2 over Brandon Miller from Hickory in the title bout.
Bradford’s Colby Keane was fifth at 132 pounds, going 4-2. Jaron Ambrose was seventh at 152 pounds, also going 4-2.
Bradford placed 10th in the 23-team event.
“The first day (Friday) wasn’t bad at all by any means as young as the team is,” BAHS first-year coach Jamey Miller said. “The second day everybody stepped up. It’s like we went up two notches on the maturity level. That was the difference on our rise up the leaderboard.
“Last year, were were 18th out of 19 teams. This year, still giving up multiple weight classes, we rose all the way to 10th out of 23 teams.”
The Owls return to action Tuesday at Port Allegany.
Gage Arnold of Coudersport won the 160-pound title, while teammate Dustin Kudrick was second at 152 pounds.
Alex English of Kane captured the 152-pound title and Ridgway’s Colton McClain won the 285-pound crown.
Jake Kallenborn of Port Allegany was second at 160 and Coudersport’s Isaac Wright was second at 170.
