Kane tops O-E, Lady Owls fall

KANE – Trinity Clark led all scorers with 17 points to lead Kane to a 56-38 victory over Otto-Eldred to open the season on Friday.

“It was a good first game of the season,” Kane head coach Dave Kiehl said.

“We looked terrific at times and looked like we were playing our first game of the season at other times.”

Ella Marconi added 15 and Rachel Morgan tossed in 14 for the Lady Wolves. Camryn Thomas led Otto-Eldred with 10 points.

“Our big girls (Ella, Rachel and Trinity) dominated the boards and did most of our scoring, 46 of our points,” Kiehl said.

“We have all of the components to be a very tough team to play against. We just need to keep working hard every night to get better and better.”

    Hollidaysburg 54, Bradford 25

HOLLIDAYSBURG — Mckenna Hurd and Katelyn Parisi combined for 40 points to lead Hollidaysburg to victory over Bradford in the Hollidaysburg Tournament on Friday.

Hurd led the winners with 21 points, while Parisi added 19.

The Lady Owls had their problems from the field and the foul line, scoring just eight points in the first half.

“We definitely had first game jitters,” said Bob Hannon, Bradford coach. “We only have two girls with any extensive experience so there were some nervous players on the floor. We had some good looks at the basket, but could not put the ball in. If a couple had dropped, we would have gotten some confidence and played a little differently.

“We also could not hit our free throws. We were 5-for-18 and you won’t win games with that. Foul shooting is something we have to work on.”

Hollidaysburg held a 22-8 lead at the break and then outscored the Lady Owls 18-8 in the third period to put the game away.

“They took it to us in the third quarter and opened up their lead, but we didn’t take care of the ball,” Hannon pointed out.

High scorer for the Lady Owls was Bri Wells with 10 points.

Bradford returns to action today in the consolation game against Central which lost to Blairsville in their game on Friday.

“Central will come out and play an aggressive man-to-man,” Hannon explained. “Hopefully we got the first game jitters out of the way and we’ll play better. We just have to learn and get better each game.”

    Johnsonburg 45, Cameron County 34

EMPORIUM — Johnsonburg defeated Cameron County 45-34 in varsity girls basketball action on Friday.

Skylar Sherry scored 16 points and Nicole Myers scored a game high 16 points for the Lady Rams and Madison Harrier scored 16 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and four steals to lead the Lady Raiders. Emily Shatz pulled down eight rebounds for Cameron County.

“We struggled in the first quarter. Credit Johnsonburg’s defense to put us down 11. After that we played even with them,” said David Sullivan Cameron County’s head coach.

Cameron County will play Monday at Ridgway with the junior varsity game starting at 6 p.m.

    Port Allegany 41, Youngsville 25

SHEFFIELD — Port Allegany’s Autumn Buchsenschutz scored a game-high 20 points and the Lady Gators presented new head coach Jason Luther with his first win in the Sheffield Tournament on Friday.

Leah Garzel was the Lady Gators’ leading rebounder with nine, while Cailey Barnett grabbed six missed shots.

High scorer for Youngsville was Kathy Sveda with 11 points.

Port Allegany returns to action today against Eisenhower starting at 3 p.m.
