WINTER WONDERS: Starting this weekend, the Audubon Community Nature Center in Jamestown, N.Y., is inviting people to come enjoy winter-related happenings.
On Saturday, if you’re looking for a way to get your young ones outside to explore the world of winter, the organization is holding a Little Explorers event for children ages 3 to 8 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
As the Audubon describes the activity for the event, “There is a whole world of activity under the snow. A walk outside with a naturalist will show tunnels, footprints, food caches, burrows, and more.”
Make reservations by Thursday for Little Explorers. The adventure will be held rain or shine, and children should dress for the weather.
Meanwhile, Winter Lights at Audubon begins Dec. 16.
The center will open its doors several evenings in December and January so visitors may enjoy a short walk and a spectacle of lights on the winter scenery.
According to Audubon, visitors will be treated with the sight of 14 lasers, more than 10,000 LED lights and a luminary-lit trail, along with new visual wonders. New this year will be an interactive video projected outside with animation created by local artist Gary Peters. Steve French of Volt Vision in Warren collaborated with the center on the light display.
“The Audubon Community Nature Center’s merger of nature with cutting edge technology is a special treat because you get to control your experience. Interactive LED lights, including a drum that changes lights in the building, firefly lasers and animals quiz boards, create a new twist on light shows,” they tell us.
Families are invited to see the lights from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 17, 22, 23, 29, 30, and Jan. 6 and 7.
A special adults-only night will be held from 5:30 to 830 p.m.Dec. 16 with live entertainment by Smackdab, and will have beer and wine available.
