EMPORIUM — Sinnemahoning State Park will be offering a variety of programs this month at the Park Office and Wildlife Center.
A natural ornaments program will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
During the program, park staff will guide and inspire participants to use pine cones, leaves, and other natural objects to create their own unique natural ornaments. The program is free and open to all ages. In order to have enough supplies for all participants, pre-registration is required. To register, contact or email the park office by Thursday.
Also, a homeschool day-natural gifts program will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 15.
Homeschool students will be able to discover how to create homemade ornaments using local natural materials and learn how to make recycled paper. All materials, including pine cones, leaves, and other natural objects will be provided. Gift bags and tags will complete this seasonal gift program. The free educational program is appropriate for all grade levels. Pre-registration is required by Dec. 13.
A holiday open house will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Dec. 17.
Participants will be able to experience the holiday season surrounded by nature and exquisite holiday decorations. The open house will present an opportunity for the community to view the Wildlife Center all decked out in its winter splendor. Visitors can enjoy the eye-catching holiday displays created by local volunteers, Grandpa Hank’s winter village and of course, the state-of-the art wildlife exhibits.
Visitors will also be able to listen to the sounds of the season as they make a holiday-themed craft and enjoy a hot cup of cocoa or mulled cider while chatting with friends by the cozy fire. Children will have a chance to meet with Santa and go on a candy cane hunt.
Light refreshments will be offered throughout the afternoon. The gift shop will be open for holiday gift-buying needs.
Finally, from 9 to 10 a.m. Dec. 31, visitors will be able to enjoy New Year’s Eve by watching birds visiting feeders outside the classroom window at the Wildlife Center along with state park staff.
December through March, join in on the Project Feeder Watch counts to learn more about these beautiful winter visitors, their food preferences, and how winter bird feeder counts help scientists learn more about the health of our environment. No pre-registration is required for this free program.
