SUPERMOON: The moon is going to be extra bright this weekend.
As the moon will turn full at 8:52 a.m. our time, both Sunday and Monday nights should be good for viewing the celestial event.
While supermoons happen with some regularity, this one might be extra special at this weekend’s supermoon is “the closest supermoon since January 26, 1948,” wrote Bruce McClure in an article for EarthSky.org. According to Bruce, it will be Nov. 25, 2034, before the moon is this close again.
The National Weather Service in State College is calling for mostly clear skies on Sunday night, so it should be a good time — if perhaps a chilly time, with a low of 31 degrees predicted — to view the moon. Monday night is expected to be mostly cloudy.
AUCTION: Speaking of things that are super, it’s less than week now until the Festival of Trees, the annual auction fundraiser for the Era’s Less Fortunate (ELF) Fund.
Make sure you grab your tickets quick if you plan on attending, as seating is limited and the committee isn’t planning on having tickets left to sell at the door.
For only $35, attendees will have food prepared by Pennhills’ kitchen, valet parking, coat check, live music and the chance to bid on unique Christmas presents for friends and family.
Among the auction items will be this replica of Norman Rockwell’s “No Swimming,” painted and donated by a man who was an inmate at the Federal-Correctional Institute at McKean.
Tickets can be found at Foster Brook Glass & Mirror — where you can also get a peek at a few of the things that will be available, Graham Florist Greenhouses, Santo Vida Natural Wellness Center, CNB and Northwest banks locations in Bradford and Foster Brook, Tin Ceiling Gift Shoppe, Heartstrings at BRMC and from committee members.
