Otto-Eldred eliminated Port Allegany 25-9, 25-21, 25-16 in the opening round of the District 9 Class A girls’ volleyball playoffs Tuesday.
Camryn Thomas (10 kills, 6 blocks, 12 points, 4 aces), Emily Smith (27 assists, 10 points), Ali Cousins (5 kills, 9 digs, 4 aces) and Harlee VanScoter (3 kills, 5 blocks, 10 points, 2 aces) led the winners (19-2).
Pacing the Lady Gators were Hannah Lathrop (7 points, 4 kills), Mira Terrette (12 assists) and Morgan Greeley (10 digs).
“The girls played great the first set, dropped off a little bit then bounced back and recovered,” O-E coach Jame Thomas said. “That’s how it’s been all year. They bounce right back and take care of business.”
The Lady Terrors host Coudersport at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the next round.
In other action, Coudersport (17-2) swept Ridgway 25-12, 25-18, 25-8.
Kiara Perkins (21 points, 4 aces, 8 kills), Ally Easton (2 aces, 5 blocks, 8 kills), Haley Keck (27 assists, 4 aces, 16 points) and Skyler VanWagenen (6 kills, 3 aces) led the Lady Falcons.
Coudy coach Patty Wilson praised her defensive specialists.
“They (Ady Page, Joplin Osgood, Macy Gleason, Emma Powell) did a phenomenal job passing the ball to the center,” Wilson said.
Added Wilson, “I was happy with the way the girls played together as a team.”
Elsewhere in the first round, Smethport used Meagan DeLuca’s 28 assists and Katie Treat’s 20 kills to post a three-game sweep over Curwensville, 25-17, 25-18, 28-26.
DeLuca was also credited with one kill, while Katie Treat also came up with 2 points, 7 digs, 2 blocks and 7 aces.
Backing up the duo were Faith Button (16 digs, 2 points), Abbey Woodard (14 kills, 5 points, 1 assist, 5 digs, 2 aces, 2 blocks), Olivia Goodwill (3 kills, 2 points, 9 digs, 2 aces) and Emily Treat (4 kills, 1 point, 3 digs, 1 ace).
“Everyone played very well,” said Teri Spittler, Smethport coach. “I was happy with the teamwork and our performance as a unit.”
Smethport (11-6) advances to the second round on Thursday. The Lady Hubbers take on top-seeded Elk Catholic in St. Marys starting at 6:30 p.m.
