Halloween is almost here, and area municipalities have scheduled spooktastic events and trick-or-treat times for local children to take to the streets in search of candy and fun.
The fifth annual All Hallows Eve Celebration and Haunted Halloween Trail will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Sinnemahoning State Park near Austin.
Festivities will include children’s crafts, games, hayrides, a bonfire, haunted trail and more.
The cost for the event is $10 per car load.
State park officials said children’s crafts and games will take place from 4 to 6 p.m.; a family-friendly trail and trick or treat from 4 to 6 p.m.; and a feature creature program from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Meanwhile, hayrides are slated from 4 to 6 and 7 to 8:30 p.m., and the full terror trail will be open from 7 to 9 p.m.
Austin Borough trick or treat hours will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Those looking to have kids come to their door are also asked to leave a porch light on.
A pumpkin carving and scarecrow building contest will be held from noon to 3 p.m. today at the James City ball field pavilion. Judging will be at 3 p.m.
One pumpkin will be provided per child, and hay will be provided for the scarecrow. Participants are asked to bring clothes and a head for the scarecrow; the kitchen will be open for food and drinks. The event, which is sponsored by the Highland Township Recreation Association, is free.
The Lafayette Township Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department will host its annual Halloween party today at their fire hall on Route 59 in Lafayette (across from FCI-McKean). The event, which is open to all residents of Lafayette Township, will begin at 11 a.m. and will feature games, prizes and a light lunch. Children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes.
Lafayette Township’s trick-or-treat hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Residents are asked to leave their porch light on if they wish to participate.
Coudersport’s annual Halloween parade will also be held today. Lineup is at 2 p.m. on Third Street across from the gazebo. The parade starts at 3 p.m., and travels down Main Street to the back of the Gunzburger Building to the gymnasium entrance. There, prizes will be awarded for best single costume, best doubles costumes, funniest, scariest, best family costumes, etc. Free ice cream and candy bars will be provided to all. The parade is sponsored by the Coudersport Rotary.
Coudersport trunk or treat will start at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the borough office. Trick or treat follows at 6 p.m. until lights out.
The Open Arms Community and Grace Lutheran churches in Bradford are collecting individually wrapped candy for the annual Trunk or Treat event scheduled for Monday.
Candy can be dropped off at Open Arms Community Church on East Main Street in Foster Township and the Grace Lutheran Community Life Center on Mechanic Street in Bradford.
Organizers said the event — themed mobile games — will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Halloween night. This year’s Trunk or Treat will include free games, free food and plenty of free candy, according to organizers.
A Trunk or Treat event has been slated for Port Allegany on Halloween. The event, to be held on the town square, will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Open Arms Community Church and Port Allegany Alliance Church are sponsoring the event, which will include candy and games. The theme for the event is board games.
Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. will be trick-or-treat for Bradford City, Bradford Township, Foster Township, Ulysses Borough, Duke Center, Smethport Borough and Keating Township.
Lewis Run Borough will hold trick-or-treat hours from 6 to 7 p.m., and a Halloween party will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. on Halloween at the Lewis Run Fire Hall.
Port Allegany Borough will observe trick-or-treating from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Trick or treat in Eldred Borough will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 31, and the Otto trunk-or-treat will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Otto Park.
The following municipalities have set trick-or-treating from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday — Hilltop, Roulette Township, Olean, N.Y., Salamanca, N.Y., Portville, N.Y., Ellicottville, N.Y., Allegany, N.Y., Galeton Borough, Bolivar, N.Y.,Cattaraugus, N.Y., Genesee and Shinglehouse.
All of these municipalities have requested residents wishing to participate to leave a porch light on.
