Two Bradford men are in McKean County Jail for allegedly robbing the Bradford Coin Shop Saturday and assaulting the shop’s owner.
Ozzy Strait, 18, of 135 South Ave., and Michael Kelly, 31, of 80 Boylston St., Apt. 3, are both charged with robbery with the threat of injury and conspiracy to commit robbery, first-degree felonies; robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery, second-degree felonies; simple assault, theft and receiving stolen property, second-degree misdemeanors.
Court records said at 2:38 p.m. Saturday, Kelly and Strait entered the Bradford Coin Shop, went behind the counter and assaulted owner Gene Seagren, hitting him numerous times in the head. The men then broke a display case and took silver and red certificate bills along with an assortment of gold and silver colored jewelry.
The two men took the items without paying for them and fled from the scene, police said.
Seagren was transported to Bradford Regional Medical Center for treatment of cuts, bruising and swelling on his face and head, police said.
After the robbery, Bradford City Police obtained surveillance footage of the two men and put a photo of the two men on Facebook. A “huge number” of tips were given to police, and the two men were quickly identified, located and arrested without incident.
Strait and Kelly were arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Rich Luther and remanded to McKean County Prison in Smethport, with bail being set at $115,000 each.
The Bradford and Foster township police departments also assisted in the investigation.
