The Main Street Movie House in Bradford is excited to announce the beginning of its annual Independent Film Series — just in time for the fall season.
Starting this Monday, the program is an eight-week series with films playing at 5:30 p.m. every Monday through mid-November.
Tickets to each film are $7 per person, or a season pass can be purchased for $56 and includes a free medium popcorn to each show.
According to marketing manager Tomi Dolan, the series is run every year during the fall, with the goal of bringing movies from independent film companies to the local community that may not have access to them otherwise.
“We like to keep things local for our community, so bringing these films to our hometown theater in a series is a great way to show popular independent films without having to travel to see them,” Dolan explained. “This series has been successful for us, and we will continue the series for as long as the interest, positivity and support are there.”
The series showcases movies targeted for a wide audience, that include drama, romance, comedy, action, thriller, crime and even a biography, Dolan added.
The origin for showing film series like this one stemmed from when Jim Guelfi operated the Movie House, Dolan continued, and the idea has been continued for the past three years.
“We have a few series that we put on during the year,” Dolan told The Era. “In the past, during the late winter and nearing the Academy Awards, we run an Academy Awards Series, in which we highlight some of the films that have either been nominated or won an award. Another film series we have done in the past is a Faith-Based series to appeal to the religious community in Bradford. And we are always looking for new ideas for film series to feature at the Main Street Movie House.”
In this upcoming film series, Main Street Movie House will show an array of genres, from drama to comedy and “others in between,” Dolan noted.
“There are a few based off of true stories, such as Sully and Deepwater Horizon, as well as some fictitious stories such as Love & Friendship and Hell or High Water,” according to Dolan. “All of the films in this series were carefully selected based upon ratings from critics and the audience, and we’re just really excited for the local community to come on down to Main Street and check it out every Monday evening this fall.”
The films in this series and when they will be playing are as followed:
Sept. 26- Money Monster
Oct. 3- Free State of Jones
Oct. 10- Love & Friendship
Oct. 17- The Hollars
Oct. 24- Hell or High Water
Oct. 31- Sully
Nov. 7- Deepwater Horizon
