COUDERSPORT — A Coudersport man was arraigned Thursday before District Judge Annette Easton on allegations he assaulted two juveniles.
Christopher Allen Popielarczyk, 35, of 2 Lower Lane, is charged with endangering the welfare of children, a third-degree felony; recklessly endangering another person and two counts of simple assault, all second-degree misdemeanors, court records stated.
According to court records, on Sept. 4 — Popielarczyk’s birthday — he “became enraged in an intoxicated state” because one of the victims — a 12-year-old girl — wasn’t there. The girl was brought there, and Popielarczyk allegedly began calling her offensive names, punching the wall, then hitting her in the face and arms. This prompted three people to step in to protect the victim, at one point pinning Popielarczyk to the floor.
Then, after school on Sept. 6, Popielarczyk was found by a witness to be beating the girl — who was curled up in a ball on a couch — with a bag twisted up in his hand; he had a knife in his hand, which he used to cut open the bag, then he threw the bag at the witness and pointed the knife at the witness’ face, court records stated.
Popielarczyk learned the witness was going to take the girl to the hospital “since she was physically ill.” He responded, “That little b—- is not sick she is not going any where,” court records read. Popielarczyk was allegedly trying to keep people from leaving the residence, and at one point tried to grab a glass ashtray.
Popielarczyk drop-kicked someone, hit someone in the shoulder, and punched someone in the eye that day, too, according to court records.
Court records indicated the victims from both days included the 12-year-old girl, as well as a boy who was under the age of 18. However, because the victims’ names were redacted, it was unclear who allegedly suffered each alleged injury or whether anyone else was involved.
He drop-kicked someone, had a knife in his hand while assaulting someone, holding the knife in someone’s face and punching someone in the face.
Popielarczyk was released on $25,000 unsecured bail, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 14.
